September 22nd-October 5th, 2025 | Upper Madison River Fishing Report

October is here and we are about to experience some of the best Streamer fishing we see all year. Temps have dropped big time with some of weather we saw come in over the last few days. It’s a crisp 46 degrees outside as we write this with snow in the forecast!

The Nymph bite has remained a solid option for those looking for numbers, but the streamers have been getting most of the larger fish as our Brown Trout focus more on spawning and less on their appetite.

River levels are at a good flow for wade fishing and floating still with Cameron running at 1,040cfs and Kirby at 842cfs.

Most of the fish are in deeper water, but with this cold water means they could move to shallow to begin to stage for spawning or into a feeding lane at any time. Targeting the places you think those fish might be located such as drop offs, riffle water or deep buckets. They are constantly moving so try all the water types this time of year.

So, what does this mean for the coming weeks? Colored up Browns and rosy cheeked Rainbows! It’s always so cool to watch the fish change into their spawning/wintering colors!
